Welcome to the Apex Paragliding Website

We are a full-time paragliding training school, based on the South Downs near Brighton, around an hour's drive from London.

The Sussex area is one of the most friendly environments for learning the exciting sport of paragliding - our sites range from the gentle grassy training slopes through to the 700-foot escarpments which allow spectacular height gains of thousands of feet to trained soaring pilots.paraglider flight

At Apex, we have 20 years experience at defying gravity, starting in the early days of this fantastic sport. Training in the UK is controlled by the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, who also issue the ratings you will gain as you progress. All Apex instructors are, needless to say, fully qualified BHPA Instructors or Senior Instructors. Gary Cook, the Chief Flying Instructor of Apex Paragliding has been working in the sport for 20 years, and has worked on a number of BHPA Training, Safety and Examining Committees.

In addition to teaching, we supply all the equipment you will need to become a safe, qualified paraglider pilot; we are agents for all major brands. Our online shop also stocks a range of books and DVDs about paragliding.

In addition to our usual hill training, we are now able to offer training on our specialised Koch winch on selected weekends.

How Do I Learn?

Paragliding lessons are initially (for the first couple of days) conducted on a gentle slope. Your instructor will explain the basics of the canopy; you'll then experience your first hands-on canopy handling and short training hops.
When you're adept at handling, controlling speed and making gentle turns, you'll go to a higher hill for longer flights.
You will cover basic theory as part of your course - flight theory, meteorology and basic air law - and there is a simple exam at EP level.
If you have any further questions about our courses, please don't hesitate to call Gary on
